Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment at Gulf Shores, Alabama

October 12, 2022

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I want to share my excitement with you following my visit to our Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassador of the Environment program in Gulf Shores, Alabama, created in partnership with The Gulf Coast Center for Ecotourism & Sustainability. The Ambassadors of the Environment program is an educational program dedicated to engaging people of all ages with their natural and cultural environment. Gulf Shores is an exceptional place for our program, because of the stunning beaches, abundant wetlands, and rich forests that help support one of the most biodiverse regions in the nation. There are seemingly endless opportunities for learning and discovery and I am stunned at the beauty of this area!

I’m not just excited about the location. It’s the people I met who are working to protect the Gulf Shores environment and who support the Ambassadors of the Environment Program. They understand that teaching kids, the decision makers of tomorrow, about nature and culture will help them become passionate protectors of our planet. Everywhere I visited in Gulf Shores, I was greeted by inspired people, in public, in government, in business and at community events. Gulf Shores loves Ambassadors of the Environment and I love all the supporters at Gulf Shores. My heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has helped support the Ambassadors Program and who helped make our week in Alabama a success.

The program is directed by long-time Catalina Island Ambassadors of the Environment director, Travis Langen, who is talented at building a coalition of inspired people to help find financial support and to find exceptional educators to teach the program to kids.

The Program will benefit greatly in the near future when a new Gulf Coast Eco Center will be built near Gulf State Park. The environmentally designed Eco Center will be the new campus and home base for the Ambassadors Program. The Eco Center will be an asset to the to the Program and to the community.

With all the exceptional work I saw and all the supportive people I met in Gulf Shores, especially the inspired kids, it gives me hope that we are going to make it as a species. We will make the right decisions to help protect the ocean and our planet, our life support system that we depend upon for the quality of our lives.

Warm regards,
