Please join us at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival celebrating the World Premiere of “Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Secret Ocean 3D”, followed by the Attenborough Award for Excellence in Nature Filmmaking to honor the Cousteau’s, and award-winning “Swain’s Island - One of the Last Jewels of the Planet”
Santa Barbara, CA – The Santa Barbara International Film Festival and Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society are exited to announce the world premiere of Jean- Michel Cousteau’s new IMAX film, “Secret Ocean 3D” at the Arlington Theater (1317 State St.) on Wednesday January 28th at 7:00 pm.
Produced by Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society and 3D Entertainment Films, "Jean-Michel Cousteau's Secret Ocean 3D" provides a compelling, breakthrough look at a secret world within the ocean that is perhaps the biggest story of all -- that the smallest life in the sea is the mightiest force on which we all depend.
Alongside marine biologist Holly Lohuis, Jean-Michel - son of ocean pioneer Jacques Cousteau - invites audiences to dive into this whole new world that will leave viewers in awe of the beauty and diversity of the oceans - the source of all life on our planet - and inspire an even stronger desire to protect what they have either seen for the first time, or perhaps re-discovered.
“Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Secret Ocean 3D” features breathtaking underwater sequences on newly developed 3D camera technology that engages audiences of all ages. The film is narrated by oceanographer and diving pioneer Dr. Sylvia Earle, written by Emmy- nominated writer Pamela Stacy, and developed under the supervision of marine ecologist and Chief Scientific Advisor Dr. Richard Murphy.
Immediately following the world premiere of “Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Secret Ocean 3D” will be a tribute event at the Arlington Theater: The Attenborough Award for Excellence in Nature Filmmaking honoring the Cousteau family - Jean-Michel, his son Fabien, and daughter Celine Cousteau. Learn more about this tribute event here.
“The name Cousteau is synonymous with ocean exploration and preservation, something the Santa Barbara community is equally passionate about. Acknowledging them for their dedication to continue their mission through action and education is both an honor and a privilege.” stated Roger Durling, SBIFF Executive Director.
There will also be a screening of award-winning “Swains Island - One of the Last Jewels of the Planet” at the Metro 4 Theater (618 State St.) on Wednesday January 28th at 4:20 pm.
Produced by international explorer and conservationist Jean-Michel Cousteau of Ocean Futures Society and filmmaker Jim Knowlton, along with the support of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, the documentary film “Swains Island” is a journey to a tiny remote island located 200 miles north of American Samoa that has recently been added to the National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa.
Please join us for this wonderful and unique opportunity at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival to celebrate three events with Jean-Michel Cousteau and his family, team and friends. Jean-Michel Cousteau will be present for both screenings of “Secret Ocean 3D” and both screenings of “Swains Island - One of the Last Jewels of the Planet.”
