The prized island of Holbox, Quintana Roo, suffers a new attack on its ecology and the respect for the rights of its inhabitants. A Brazilian singer, Denisse de Kalafe, contravening Article 11 of the Mexican Constitution that grants free transit in the national territory and prohibits the privatization of beaches, has placed barriers preventing the passage in front of her property in Holbox.

Perhaps the authorities in charge of safeguarding the ecological integrity of Mexico, SEMARNAT and PROFEPA, are not aware of this fact. We take this public denouncement to remind the candidates for the presidency of Mexico about the vital importance of the environment for the health of the country and its inhabitants.

Sincerely,
Ruben D. Arvizu
