Global Ocean Network
Ocean Future Society's comprehensive, multi-phased
ocean exploration and communications project will dramatically alter the way the public
and the scientific community view the planet. Through the creation and deployment of a
network of research vessels, land and ocean-based technology, Global Ocean Network
will report, record and monitor worldwide environmental events, in real time. A
high-tech communications web of satellites, the internet, interactive kiosks and
broadcast media will bring powerful images of these events to the world’s attention,
raising awareness of threats to the planet and encouraging global action.

Ambassadors of the Environment
Ocean Futures Society’s hands-on, outdoor
science-education program. Ambassadors is designed to inspire our youth with a
sense of hope by providing them the knowledge and tools to be better stewards of our
natural resources through positive action. Focusing on principles of biology and
ecology, students are challenged to compare what they learn with how their own
communities back home operate, exploring which is more sustainable and why. Infused
into the educational adventure are opportunities for students to learn about themselves
and others through positive risk taking and teamwork. The program currently serves
over 10,000 students each year at Catalina Island, near Los Angeles California, at Point
Bonita – Marin Headlands, north of San Francisco, and in Kona, Hawai’i. Future program
sites include the British Virgin Islands. Ambassadors of the Environment is now in
Santa Barbara County! We offer free, multimedia environmental programs for grades K- 8 in
the Tri-Counties region, which have already reached over 1,500 local students. To learn
more about school outreach and our camp programs, visit the Ambassadors website at

Sustainable Reefs
Coral reefs are in crisis. The goal of Ocean
Futures' Sustainable Reefs program is to show people, especially from coastal and
island nations, the value of coral reefs, how they are threatened by human activity, and
what can be done to protect them. The link between abuses like pollution, destructive
fishing practices and global warming, and their harm to the reef is made in order to
inspire positive action. Sustainable Reefs communicates its message through
culturally appropriate and entertaining educational resources, including a colorful video
and cartoon book in local languages, presented by local celebrities, to show adults and
teach young people the value of saving threatened reefs.

Media Campaigns
Ocean Futures Society is creating a public service
announcement on freshwater, together with Earth Communications Office (ECO), which will
be distributed to movie theaters, television and cable stations nationwide, and aired as
part of airlines' in-flight programming. Water Culture, an inspiring new book
developed by Ocean Futures Society and SKE Group, offers a unique vision of the beauty,
wonder and reality of the water element. The hardcover book, prefaced by Jean-Michel
Cousteau, weaves powerful images alongside stirring interviews with notable figures from
around the world. Potential contributors to the book include Mikhail Gorbachev, Jacques
Chirac, Bono and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
