Santa Barbara, CA – The United Nations Climate Change Conference, also called COP21, is taking place in Paris, France from November 30 to December 11, 2015. World leaders and representatives from over 190 countries have gathered to discuss the future of climate change and the growing need to curb carbon dioxide emissions around the world. These discussions have focused on important issues relating to carbon reductions, global equity, and financial incentives needed to move our world forward, but we must also continue discussing the protection of the oceans.

Jean-Michel Cousteau, founder and president of Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society and Chairman of GreenCross France and Territories, submitted a statement highlighting the critical need to include ocean protection for the Presidency Key Brief, the Exclusive Magazine for all heads of state and heads of government at COP21 titled, An Exciting and Crucial Moment in History: Paris Climate Conference 2015.

Although Jean-Michel will not be in attendance, there will be a voice for the ocean at the climate conference: Céline Cousteau, Jean-Michel Cousteau’s daughter. For all those who signed our petition to demand global action from world leaders on climate change, we thank you. And we want to let you know that Céline Cousteau represents all of our voices in speaking up on behalf of the oceans. It is the legacy of the Cousteau family to serve as an international voice for the protection of our planet. They have long captivated our hearts and inspired us with their visual storytelling, documenting the critical links between our natural world and the people who depend on it for survival.
